Dr. Schere attended the University of Rochester from 1989-1993, graduating cum laude with a B.A. in Psychology and magna cum laude with a B.A. in English Literature. In 2001 he earned his doctoral degree from the California School of Professional Psychology, San Diego. His doctoral research focused on dispositional, social, and cultural variables that impact a child's vulnerability towards child abuse.
Dr. Schere is a faculty lecturer at San Diego State University's School of Social Work, where he teaches Lifespan Development and at Alliant International University where he teaches Introduction to Psychotherapy to first year doctoral students and an advanced Seminar in Supervision and Consultation to advanced students. Dr. Schere has co-facilitated preceptorships for first year medical students at the UCSD School of Medicine, and does regular trainings in the community on Motivational Interviewing and Parent Child Interaction Therapy.
Dr. Schere is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the San Diego Psychological Association (SDPA), and the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT).
Dr. Schere has been providing Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) to families for over 15 years and is a certified PCIT therapist and level 1 trainer by PCIT International.
